The DESs is the set of formal rules for the structure of data elements for a data category, and documents agreements on the representation, format, definition, structuring, tagging, transmission, manipulation, use, and management of data in which data are shared. The document that holds the various DES for the different data categories in a database is referred to as the DES Document.
RMPC also refers to this as data specification and definitions.
